Giulio Padoin, Violoncello | Gabriele Lucherini, Fortepiano

Giulio Padoin und Gabriele Lucherini spielen seit 2018 im Rahmen der Schola Cantorum Basiliensis zusammen, an der sie regelmässig Unterricht von Edoardo Torbianelli, Christophe Coin, Petr Skalka und Leila Schayegh erhalten. Jeweils mit Anfang 20 studierten beide die didaktischen und ästhetischen Quellen des 18. und 19. Jahrhunderts. Das Ergebnis dieses Forschungsinteresses drückt sich in der gemeinsamen Sprache im Spiel aus, die zu einer ständigen Anregung in der Interaktion zwischen den beiden Musikern führt.

Die Basis liegt dabei auf Parametern wie: Verschmelzung von Klang, gemeinsamer Improvisation, strukturellem, narrativen und emotionalen Verständnis der Kompositionen, Strategien der Beredsamkeit und Kommunikation, der Verbindung zwischen emotionalem Charakter und rhythmischer Fluktuation, der Verwendung von Rubato, dem Gleichgewicht zwischen Intensität und Klangfarbe des Tons.

Sie konzertieren gemeinsam in Italien, Frankreich und der Schweiz.

What was the trigger that brought you to playing with historical instruments?
Gabriele Lucherini: The variety of sounds and aestethics of differents historical pianos, research and practice of improvisation and performance practice.
Giulio Padoin: Since I was a child I have lived inside an enviroment full of baroque music played on period instruments: both my parents are musician specialized on that repertoire. During my studies of modern cello I started to have lessons with the historical cello too, and this led me to deepen first the baroque repertoire and then the classical and romantic music played with period instruments.

How did your preparation as ensemble work out in the Covid year?
Fortunately in Switzerland there were from May 2020 no restrictions about duo rehearsal.

Do you have got a favourite piece in your repertoire? And if so, which one and why?
Variation of Vorisek, very rarely played and very difficult to find the notes, but extremely catching.
